Notes: For the drabble prompt "Ice". A memory from Jonathan Archer's childhood.

Rating: K

The boy laced up his ice skates, slowly and carefully. Cautiously, he stood up and pushed himself across the ice, enjoying the rush of wind on his face. It made him feel like flying through the air; he closed his eyes and spread his arms out like a bird's wings. The crisp bite of winter invigorated him and he pushed himself faster around the pond, looping in lazy figure-eights and other shapes.

The man watched him from the snowbank. Pride flashed across his face as he thought, this boy is destined for great things.

“You'll fly, Jonny. You'll fly.”
